About Boondock Events

Boondock Events was set up in 2022 and organises challenge hikes, trail running races and bespoke outdoor events in the UK. Our mission to get more people outside, active and enjoying nature. We place a big emphasis on FUN and ENJOYMENT in the outdoors. Boondock has over 10 years experience organising mass participation events, mountain expeditions, running events, guided hikes and runs. The word ‘Boondock’ means remote, rural and with a sense of adventure. That spirit of adventure is at the core of all our events.

What do we do

Boondock Events organises events, challenges and expeditions here in the UK. Our events range from film evenings, trail running races to mountain adventures. We tend to operate outside of urban environments and in some of the more scenic parts of the country.

Why we do what we do

We all have a screen and device problem and it is wrecking our physical and mental health. At the same time, we are losing our connection to nature and the world around us. The average Brit will spend 25 years of their lives working on screens and only 15 minutes a day outside. We will also spend 4 - 5 hours on our phone, each and every day. Actually we just need to spend more time outdoors with other people.

Our impact

Our impact is based around two core things: leave no trace principles and supporting local with every event. The ‘leave no trace’ principle is around improving the site or area while we are there, this involves things like litter picking, educating and not causing damage to flora and fauna. Supporting local is about putting back in to local groups. All our events include a financial donation to local group(s), these are predominantly environmental or heritage groups who work year round to improve the local area for the community and visitors.

About the Founder

Growing up on a working sheep farm, gave me an appreciation and love of being outside. I left the farm to go and work in the city in my 20s and quickly entered the world of wearing a tie, sitting on the London underground and thinking about KPIs. ‘Living for the weekend’ became the focus and on one memorable trip attempting (and failing) to paddle the length of the River Thames in one go in a weekend. On that trip, I decided I wanted to to this outdoor thing full-time and it was time to leave the 9-5

I trained as a Mountain Leader in North Wales which opened up a completely new world and have been fortunate to climb hundreds of mountains and share important moments with thousands of people, both adults and young people. Being active in nature with others really is ‘it’. We need more of it! That is why Boondock exists. Please get in touch via the contact form to chat about organising something for you.
